You're Gonna Miss This

Image
Trace Adkins didn't win Celebrity Apprentice, but he gets my vote for understanding what it takes to be a great parent! (at least in this song) Lately I've been really thinking about distractions. I found that I've filled my life up with so many distractions that some of the more important things get put on the back burner. With Jason in the MBA program, I've had to pick up several of his responsibilities and I realize now how much I've taken that for granted. With these new responsibilities, I've felt completely overwhelmed and find that I'm focusing on the wrong things. I'm completely missing out on really cherishing everyday moments with my boys. I've done a lot of thinking about how I want to run my life and how on earth to get everything done. {{if that's even possible}} One thing kept coming to me - "I can't do everything on this list alone and I can't do everything on this list every week." Over the past couple months, I...

Princess for a Night

Image
After a miserable 4 days of Drake and I being sick, and my man out of town, I finally left the house last night. Yes, Ladies, I had not left my house (other than to pick up the kids from school) since Monday. I've been in my jammie's, sick as a dog all week. After all I've been through this week, I was not going to let the misery continue and miss the princess party that I was invited to. When I got the invitation I realized that I haven't ever dressed up as a princess. I had grand plans of buying the perfect baby blue gown and blinging it out as my first Cinderella gown. My bad luck, the flu took over and I was in no condition to drive, let alone shop. So I wore a dress that I bought for a cruise a couple years ago. I have my fake long ponytail on and every princess needs a tiara! Back story: I bought those during a real identity crisis when I turned 30 and had my 3rd boy. The realization that I wouldn't have a daughter was too hard to bear and so I turned it into ...

Why I Blog

Image
This post has been edited for Tip Junkie's Talk To Me Tuesday post on Why I Blog. (This picture is too funny, I had to use it again.) Lately, I've been evaluating all the time and energy I expend blogging. Is it worth it? I call this my "Blog Identity Crisis". Every couple months I go through the same dialogue in my head and ultimately decide to keep going. I really do love blogging. Since I have a terrible memory, I'm glad that memories which would normally be lost, are caught on film and in writing here on my blog. I love keeping up with friends near and far. I really enjoy making new blogging buddies and connecting with people through our trials and interests ! What I love most about blogging is the excitement I feel when I get inspired by someone! I'm constantly amazed by YOU strong and talented women. I'm inspired by your writing style , I'm inspired by what a compassionate person you are, I'm inspired by the fun things you do and your trav...

I'm Sick...

Sorry Ladies, I'm soo sick. No post today. :(

Hoppin' Easter!

Image
I hope everyone had a " Hoppy Easter"! It was a fun one for us. The boys and I did a bit of traveling over the weekend. My bother , who just came back from his mission, was speaking in Houston and I wanted to be sure to support him. So we made the 4 hour trek . *Update - I'm not preggers. This shirt is just sheer and flowy. ;) ha ha First, we made a stop over at Lisa's. Her church was having a carnival and we decided to take the boys. I'm so glad we did, they went all out! Here we are at the petting zoo. Drake loved the horse and miniature monkey. He kept going back to see them. Lisa and I competed in the human bungee race. She beat me, but only by like 2 inches! Considering she's a lot taller than I am, I was proud of myself. We did it several times with the same result. It was the highlight of the carnival for me. Both boys took their turn. After the carnival we took a 3 mile walk and then the boys played in the sprinklers in Lisa's backyard. Afterwa...

Conversing with a 3 year old

Image
(Picture taken from Drake's birthday party) Every other Monday, I have the privilege of a play date with Emily. She's 3 and so fun and sassy. I absolutely eat it up! She's an excellent conversationalist, yep even better than my 9 year old. She has the best giggle's and is such a happy little girl. Here's one of our conversations we had today: Emily : "Where's your daughter?" Me : "I don't have a daughter." Emily : "No, what's her name?" Me : "Who's name?" Emily : "Your daughters name!" {{aggravated by having to repeat herself}} Me : "Emily, I don't have a daughter. I have 3 boys." {a bit annoyed she's rubbing it in}} Emily : "Why you do that! I not do that." Me : {{sigh}} "I hope you don't too."

What Flavor Gum Are You?

Image
You Are Spearmint Flavored Gum You are a mystery to most people, even your friends. Cool and a bit aloof, you tend to be a bit removed from the world. And while you keep to yourself, you're no shrinking violet. You have a strong personality, and you'll speak your mind when the time is right. You are competent in all aspects of life. You're attractive, successful, and charming. Many people want to be your friend, but you consider few people to be your true friends. What Flavor Gum Are You?

Eggciting!!

Image
Egg a house this Easter season, your friends will love it! Click here to print out your sign. It's a little later than usual, but we finally " Egged " some friends houses. The boys love it and it's been such a fun tradition in our family. However, every year we get caught by the Eakins! Several of their kids were outside on the side yard but we were super sneaky and got all the eggs hidden. Dylan got caught trying to get back to the car. Drat! We almost made it. {{giggle}} Here's Davis at our last house. Great job, boys! Today we had the annual friend Easter Egg Hunt at the park. I'm so grateful for the invite because it's such a fun time not only for the kids but for me as well. Once a year I get to reunite with friends that I haven't seen since last year at the hunt. Today, I made sure that I took a moment to really take in the experience. I was amazed at how much my friends' kids have grown and how how much they look like their siblings. I thi...

A Dentist's Nightmare!

Image
I took Davis to the dentist yesterday to get a crown. Apparently, all 4 of Davis' permanent molars have developed without enamel on them. Therefore, the dentin is flaking off and obviously causing some problems. Poor guy, let's just say he didn't win the genetic lotto. ;) Thank goodness our dentist is a family friend and a great guy. Because after having to hold Davis down and negotiate with him for 1 1/2 hours, I was near tears and exhausted!! Needless to say we've been referred to a pediatric dentist for the other 3 crowns. Sorry Brian, hope we're still friends. {{smile}} I don't think Davis is too traumatized - afterwards we went and got a new Bionicle and talked about how after hard work comes rewards. Now he has a cool " Darth Vader tooth" that won't rot away and a new toy to boot. My Mom and I had plans to go to lunch, but because of the longer dentist appointment and the babysitter couldn't stay longer, that didn't work out. Inste...

Happy Birthday to LeAnne!

Image
Tuesday, I got a little break from Spring Break with the kiddos and had a double date lunch at Pei Wei with my man and another couple. It was spontaneous and such a delight to have adult conversation in the middle of the day. That night I helped celebrate LeAnne's birthday. She's not only my hair dresser but a dear friend. She has the most contagious laugh and always has a good story to tell. I was exhausted from the day entertaining the kids but was able to enjoy the evening and simply be grateful for good frienships. It got me thinking... *What do you appreciate most in a friend?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Image
Happy St. Patrick's Day !! This happens to be one of my favorite holidays. I usually host a huge bash for friends to help celebrate the green day but this year I had way too much going on. {{bummer}} To celebrate, we played a couple games, St. Patrick's Day memory and bingo . (of course) Then we were off to meet up with friends at the movies. While I was Easter Dress shopping, I found these amazing green wedges. I originally thought I could wear them with my Easter outfit, but I think only Sarah Jessica could pull that off. (They don't exactly match.) Instead, I decided to let them make their debut on the fabulous day we wear green. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Drake is 2!

Image
Friday was Drake's 2 nd birthday so we decided to party Backyardigans style. Before the party Lisa and Drake had fun with the party hats. I bought the newest Backyardigans DVD - The Mighty Knights and pulled lots of amazing stuff from NickJr .com . You can print off paper costumes, but I decided to make these easy ones from 1/2 yard of fabric and ribbon. Drake is Pablo the king, Emily is the fairy, and... Tyson was supposed to be a knight, but he wouldn't put on the costume. So Dylan wore it instead. We kept it simple and only invited 2 guests, Emily and Tyson. I had costumes, p opsicle stick puppets, bubble wands, and echo phones for each guest. I transformed the living room into a castle with butcher paper, complete with the Dragon, King Pablo, and the Grabbing Goblin. We played pin the crown on Pablo, played with bubbles, (I'm bubbling over with love for my man!) he he watched the DVD, and opened presents. While we were singing, Drake folded his arms for the praye...
