What I Woke Up To

Sunday morning I woke up to my oldest son fully dressed for church including shoes and playing with Drake. I pinched myself several times because I was sure that I was having the sweetest dream.

After breakfast Davis showed me that not only did he get himself dressed, but he laid out both the other boys clothes!!



What brought on this super-son behavior, you ask? Well, we started Davis on some medication over a month ago. It's been trial and error for some time now but we've finally got the right dosage at the right time.


I've been getting up at 5:00 am every morning and giving him a pill. The up again at 7:00 to get the boys ready for school. This way the pill wears off and he goes to sleep on time. I'm really tired, but seeing the changes and the spark back into Davis' eyes has been so worth it to me. His self-concept has risen dramatically and he's so proud of himself!! I couldn't be more impressed with him.

*Please understand, I'm not promoting medicating children. I think you need to do what's best for your kid. ** This is what I've been going through day to day and I feel like I should share it.

I can't tell you how wonderful it has been to look in Davis' eyes and see that spark and that little boy I haven't seen since he was 2 years old. He's still struggling in several areas and his autistic tendencies are still there. So, we're still doing everything we've always done to teach and help him develop. I just feel like it has been a surprise and a blessing!

I am all for doing my part to keep the pharmaceutical companies in business!

I have no problem with meds. It sounds like your know your child well and this is obviously working for him. What a great breakthrough!

Now that's something to wake up to for sure--I would've been pinching myself too!

Glad that the new dosage is working well and his "spark" is back.I'm sure that swells your heart!

I have several friends who have autistic sons and they have struggled with the whole medicine thing. I am so glad you are finding something that is working.

YEA! That med is so great, huh? As you know, Ethan is on it too and it just makes everyone's lives better. He is such a much better boy when he's on it. I'm so so glad that it is working as well for Davis.

It really is amazing to see the difference in him. When I call and he answer we actually have a conversation. It is so fantastic to be able to communicate and know that he hears and unnderstands me. You've done a wonderful job with him!

That's a lovely Sunday Surprise!

I think your boys are simply beautiful!! And I got a little misty eyed when you said that you are seeing a sparkle in his eyes that you haven't seen since he was two. What a feeling that must be for you as his mother. Good for all of you!!!!

That is so great, Laurie. I'm so happy you've found something that is working! Really incredible news...thanks for sharing.

So, I'm curious about autism. It's been in the news so much lately b/c of Jenny McCarthy. Do you have your son's story documented on your blog? I'm just curious about how he developed it, how/when he was diagnosed, and what kind of support system you have.

I admire you for how you've handled this (from what little I know about you and your son). I'd love to hear more!

Laurie, I love the clothes he picked out! He has major fashion sense like his mom. Better living through chemistry, I say. If you can't medicate the mom, medicate the kid!

I bet that is a great feeling to have found something and that it is actually working to help you son! I bet it was awesome to wake-up and find him ready and also ready to help the others too! Hope it stays that way.

It's never an easy decision to medicate your child. Everyone seems to have their own opinion! I am so glad to hear that you as well as Davis are noticing changes!

way to go! i''m sure it has been a struggle to adjust and meet his needs and to find something that works is amazing! my boys have adhd and meds help immensely but they can't replace good parents and positive discipline!
give yourself a pat on the back! and way to go Davis taking the initiative to get the other boys clothes laid out too! awesome big brother moment!

Craft Closet Make Over

I've finally done it. After 2 years of living in this house, I've finally finished organizing the last closet in my home. This is the guest room closet that doubles as my "craft" closet. You could barely consider it a walk-in closet, but with 2 new shelves my man built for me over the weekend, it's got just enough space for what I need. Closet Before Closet Before - complete chaos ! After - view from hall (I used a different camera because mine is still broken. It was so hard to get these pics the space is so small. I hope you can get the idea.) Small shelf with hanging space for guests clothes - just above the door that goes to the attic. I spray painted 2 of these tins pink and glued flowers onto the other 3. Top Shelf Middle, 2 new shelves that Jason made and I painted white. I added these "curtains" to cover the other white bins and to make the space less messy. 1 Year Blogiversary

I can't believe it, as of Tuesday, I have been blogging for one year! On the outside not much has changed: I have 3 boys, live in the same house, my man has the same job, and I still go to Mavens, book club, and dinner club with the same fab friends.
